ATLANTIC CITY TRIP HAS BEEN SCHEDULED FOR NEXT WEEK

The Atlantic City Trip has been re-scheduled for Saturday 13. The Monthly meeting that would take place on that day has been cancelled for December. We will all meet in January 10.

Next Meeting - 12/13/08

Last meeting of the year will be held at 275 Jefferson Ave. Garden Apt.

We will hear how the Atlantic City Trip went. (Dec. 6 is the day of the trip).

We will discuss new issues at the next meeting and input from the block is encouraged.

Pumpkin Carving Madness on Jefferson Avenue!!

Everyone was up to their elbows (literally!) in pumpkin guts Saturday and there was a lot of creative pumpkin carving at this years pre-Halloween event. 

Some of the SCARY creations are shown below with their proud creators.

Thanks to everyone for coming out to enjoy the doughnuts, apple cider, and pumpkin seeds, and to the folks who made it all happen.

2nd Annual Pumpkin Carving This Saturday

At 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25, there will be a bunch of pumpkins that need homes.
Pumpkins are FREE to block residents of all ages.

There will be safe carving tools and carving assistance.

Pumpkin supply is limited so first come - first served!

Next Meeting - Nov. 8

Our meeting on 10.4 - we regrouped after the block party and discussed short-term goals as well as long term goals.

• Pumpkin carving for Halloween will happen again this year.
  
• Another Atlantic City Bus trip is being planned.
  
• Street banner was voted in favor. Will get updated estimates before taking action.
  

Next meeting will be Nov. 8th. We hope you'll be there!

Block Party 2008 (day 2)

After last Saturday was rained out, the Block Party went without a hitch on the 9th.
Thanks to everyone for showing up and helping us all have a great time. (Remember last year's?)

This year was much warmer for the slide.

The street was turned into a water park for a day.

The DJ was pool-side.

Skate boarding and frisbee were going on at the other end of the block.

Musical chairs for the little kids had a big turnout.

Unfortunately, there can only be one winner.

The Big kids round brought out the competition.

The block association president kept the order (with the secretary's help),

and the winner prevails.

Welcome to the block.

Remember, the Stoop Sale is Sept. 20th and 21st! Get your donations ready!

Important Dates for Summer

The three big events for the Block Association this summer are as follows:
*note the stoop sale has been postponed for mid-September
July 19-20 - Stoop Sale. Clean out your basement and closets and sell your stuff at the Stoop Sale. All proceeds will go to the Block Association.

July 26 - Block Clean up. If it's not in the Stoop Sale you can get rid of the rest this morning. Note - no appliances and construction debris! Remember you must be out in the morning to load your stuff on the truck!

Aug. 2 - The Block Party. Now that you've done all the work, enjoy the weekend and get to know your neighbors... again.

We'll provide more details as the come. Help plan at the next meeting on June 14th.

FREETree Guards

Sometime this week, we hope to stop by everyone with a tree in the sidewalk in front of their house. We're trying to apply for FREE tree guards at the base of all the trees on our block.
(Jeffersone ave. on both the Marcy/Nostrand side and the Tompkins/Throop blocks have these)

Please help us get the information we need to get some free beautification.

Next Meeting - May 17th - cancelled

Due to Mothers Day the Block Assc. meeting will be on the 3rd Saturday of the month. The Jefferson Avenue Brownstone Association has schedule a meeting for Saturday, May 17, 2008 at 1:00 pm. The meeting will be held at the Office of Children & Family Services, located at 272 Jefferson Avenue, corner of Marcy Avenue.
